Second SADC Preparatory Meeting for the World Radiocommunications Conference 2027 (WRC-27)

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) Secretariat is pleased to invite all stakeholders  to attend the Second SADC Preparatory Meeting for the World Radiocommunications Conference 2027 (WRC-27) to be convened from the 7th to 11th July 2025 at the Birchwood Hotel, in Johannesburg, Gauteng, Republic of South Africa. This SADC ICT event is hosted by the Government of the Republic of South Africa through their Department of Communications and Digital Technologies (DCDT).

The overarching objectives of the Second SADC Preparatory Meeting for WRC-27 include:

Draft Preliminary SADC Common Positions on WRC-27 Agenda Items;

Receive a brief on key outcomes of the Radio Regulations Board (RRB) RRB25-Meeting convened from 17th to 21st March 2025 concerning SADC Members States (from South Africa as former RRB Member);

Receive the progress report on restoration of degraded National Fixed Satellite Service (FSS) Allotments;

Receive the progress report on Broadcasting Satellite Service (BSS) Plan and FSS Plan issues in WP4A (Meeting held from the 5th to 16th May 2025);

Receive the progress report on SADC Shared Satellite Network Development (from the Steering Committee Chairperson);

Promote the participation of women in radiocommunications in the SADC Region;

Draft contribution Papers to ITU WRC-27 Working Parties;

Receive an update on the outcomes of the SADC contribution paper entitled Proposal for Exemption of Cost Recovery for Submissions under Res.170  WRC-23) at the ITU Council Meeting to be convened from the 17th to 27th June 2025 in Geneva, Switzerland; and

Update the SADC Roadmap for RA-27/WRC-27.

Please note that for Day 4 and Day 5 (10th and 11th July 2025), the Second SADC Preparatory Meeting for WRC-27 will be a closed meeting only for SADC Member States Delegates, SADC Secretariat and SATA and CRASA Secretariats, the SADC WRC-27 Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, Chapter Coordinators and Vice-Chapter Coordinators, and Rapporteurs for Agenda Items. Hence, Private Sector, ICT Operators, Industry stakeholders, Research and Development Institutions, Academia and Youth may only participate on Day 1, 2 and 3 of the Second SADC Preparatory Meeting for WRC-27.
